Obituary
C. Michael Mulvihill
April 26, 1912 - January 1, 2001
Cornelius Michael Mulvihill dies in his sleep on 15 Jan. 2001. He was born to loving parents on 26th of April 1912 in Booravonteen, County Waterford, Ireland. He was raised with his six brothers and seven sisters in a small limestone thatched cottage on the Ballylongford Road in Listawel, County Kerry. Born a subject of the English Crown, he witnessed the participation of his family in the creation of a free Ireland and though he dearly loved America, he proudly remained a citizen of the Irish Republic. He was educated at St. Patrick's College,Thursles, County Tipperary. He continued his study of literature, law and philosophy during four years of postgraduate work at the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. His first career was in counseling and education. As with all his siblings, he too eventually immigrated, moving to the Seattle area in 1949. He met and married Marjorie, his wife of nearly 51 years. He embarked on his second career in real state sales and investment, which was to last almost forty years. With his unusual mix of intuition, intelligent and charm he brought buyers and sellers together in an amicable and enjoyable fashion, involving the purchase and sale of residential, recreational, commercial and farm property through out state. He was a life long devotee of poetry, with thousands of lines and poems committed to memory. His briefcase always contained his tattered and stained Palgrave's Golden Treasury.Even in the pursuit of his life long avocation, the study and selection of thoroughbred race horses, you could find reading Goldsmith or Yeats before post time. He achieved his greatest success in his family life as a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Marjorie, his son Michael and wife Shirley, his step son Jim Cory and wife Kay, his sisters Maryanne, Joan, Philomena and Breda, several grand children and great grand children and his nieces and nephews in Ireland, England and Australia. That he will be missed is an understatement. That the memory of his love, devotion, wit, determination and example will not be forgotten cannot be overstated. There will be a private Funeral Mass.
Remembrance are suggested to Catholic Relief Services, with further suggestion that he can best remembered by reading his favorite poem "The Deserted Village" by Oliver Goldsmith.
